The beach itself would ideally look like Huntington Beach or Buckroe Beach. The site is located near the James River Wastewater Treatment Plant and is halfway between two nearby water quality monitoring sites - Riverview Beach and the Denbigh Boat Ramp. Water quality and conditions for these sites are updated on the James River Watch website (jamesriverwatch.org) on a weekly basis. Both the treatment plant and the water quality monitoring ensure that the water is safe for recreation.
The addition of a few volleyball nets directly on the beach would make the area an even more attractive place for casual sports lovers.
So now it's time to let us know what YOU think:
- How do you feel about the addition of volleyball nets to the beach?
- What other beach-related amenities would you like to see?
- Is this something that you think would benefit the area? Why or why not?
Please feel free to add comments, ask questions, and express your concerns!
There will be trails for a Riverview Farm Park. The city is now interested in conservation of the city farm property, and waterfront as park land. HRSD will have 5 pump station to pump cleaned water back into the Potomac Aquifer.
Would love to have a local recreation area with free access to the water.
Good idea. How about a boat ramp?
There is currently a boat ramp within 2 minutes walk of City Farm at the Menchville Marina, as well as the Denbigh Boat Ramp just a short drive away.
Volleyball would be fine. Also, picnic tables nearby and as mentioned, other food alternatives would be needed. Any and all mentioned.
I like the idea of a community beach. The public needs more access to the waterfront. Most waterfront in Newport News is private.
Sounds good
We sure could use some VB nets on sand
on this part of town! Love the idea.
